Contacting Political Prisoners

Always include a non-P.O. Box return address.

For a reply, include a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope.

Ask before you send any books, articles, etc. Some prisons may prohibit certain material.

Display humility and patience. These are real people fighting for their lives, with families and projects. (Yes, many stay busy.)

Tell them who you are (name/gender/age/race, etc.), a little about your political beliefs, your level of community activism and why you are writing.

Don't badger someone to write you back.

Do not press for details on cases pending, unless you have information that can lead to proving someone's innocence.
