The
Talking Drum Collective We are asking for the Unity and
collaboration of all Pan-Afrikans, Afrocentricists, activists,
and grassroots organizations, websites, mailing lists, news
services, individuals, students and etc. to get involved with
Grassroots Call to Action/Action Alert Campaign.
Each
month we will issue a "Call to Action" that addresses some
problem that plagues the poor, disenfranchised, wrongfully
imprisoned, undereducated, unemployed, culturally broken and
politically destitute. If you believe in the spirit of ACTION
and the POWER of PEOPLE, we ask you to join us.
Plan Of Action: Raise the People's awareness to this tragic miscarriage of justice, support Sister Jamie and Gladys Scott, by writing them and supporting them financially
Purpose Of Action: To agitate to a level where these Sisters receive a new trial and are released unconditionally.
In the State of Mississippi (USA) - On December 24, 1993, Scott County Sheriff's Department arrested two sisters, Jamie and Gladys Scott for armed robbery, and In October of 1994, Jamie and Gladys Scott were each sentenced to double life terms in prison. Neither sister had prior convictions, nor arrests, nor criminal history. Three young black male confessed to the robbery, implicated and linked Jamie and Gladys into the crime; and these men also received a light sentence of 10 months in exchange of a plea bargain. Allegedly; between $9-$11, were stolen; subsequently no one was injured or murdered.
We are urging everyone to support this Petition and assist our efforts in obtaining Freedom for these innocent Ladies.
My name is Jamie Scott and I have asked that this is posted on the different web sites that have been created for my sister and me. I do understand there are many people out there that don’t understand a lot about prison and what someone goes through in a situation such as this. Please don’t get me wrong; IF you commit a crime, then you should be punished.
In the state of Mississippi, the crime chart is just crazy. I have met so many women here that their husbands were beating the living mess out of them and these ladies have legal action against their husbands, but as soon as she tries to stop him from killing her and she takes his life, she comes to prison. But keep in mind; they still do not receive two life sentences. Men are here for brutal raping of children and women, but yet they don’t have double life.
When I entered prison at the tender age of 22, I felt like my world was coming apart and life was not worth living. There were no more secrets and I had to strip naked in front of everyone, including men, because they thought it was funny. I was made to... [Read More]

Pregnant women and children have long prized the dirt as a rich source of calcium and an effective antacid, but for some in the country's most desperate quarters, where thousands buckle under rising food prices and rampant unemployment, mud has become a daily staple.

Rising prices and food shortages threaten the nation's fragile stability, and the mud cookies, made of dirt, salt and vegetable shortening, are one of very few options the poorest people have to stave off hunger.
